Year 11 student Pat Welsh has made a splash on the national stage, representing St Ignatius College at the prestigious Australian All-Age Swimming Championships held in Brisbane last week.
Much of Pat’s preparation took place over the summer, with countless hours of laps and drills in the Guyra pool during December and January, in an effort to stay fit for the autumn carnivals.
Pat was one of 11 students from the college to qualify for the event, competing in the school’s open 4x50m relay team. The team delivered a strong performance, finishing mid-field and shaving an impressive 2.6 seconds off their entry time.
Swimming the butterfly leg in the medley relay, Pat showcased his dedication and technique, honed through months of hard work in his hometown of Guyra. With his sights already set on the future, Pat hopes to return to nationals in 2026, this time competing in both the relay and individual 50m and 100m freestyle events.
