Guyra Polocrosse members have had great success at the Polocrosse National Championships held in Chinchilla QLD last week.
The QLD sunshine did not disappoint as eight Guyra members represented NSW across most divisions and all members were part of a team that reached the finals.
Matt, Abbott and Carlie Grills, Emily Wamsley, Bridget McKemey, Abby and Zac Finlayson and Hayden Benson proudly wore the blue shirts.
The finals started on Saturday for Guyra members with Hayden Benson playing in the Junior Mixed Competition.
Games were 8 x 6 minutes chukkas and going into the last chukka, NSW were down by 7 goals! The boys dug deep and after 6 nail biting minutes, they beat Victoria by 1 goal.
The U21 Ladies were next to go to a final and faced a very determined Queensland team who were keen to win on home soil and not face another loss against the NSW girls. However, the NSW girls, fought hard and brought home another convincing win.
Abby Finlayson received some well-deserved individual awards including: Best Australian Stock Horse, Best No 1 and Best Intermediate Ladies player.
Zac Finlayson was the next to face Queensland in a final and although they did not take the win, the NSW boys brought home the individual awards with Zac receiving Best No 1 and Best Horse and Rider combination.
On Sunday, Queensland turned on some great weather and the players gave a day of polocrosse at its best.
Matt rode out in the Masters Men’s final against WA. Matt played a great game and not only did the NSW boys take home the win, Matt was also named man of the match and then received a Best No 1 award.
Carlie rode out in the Opens Mixed Final against a very strong Queensland side. They fought hard but did not get the win.
Abbott rode out in the Open Men’s Final, the most anticipated game of the weekend. The men did not disappoint and what was a game of true skill and sportsmanship, the NSW men won the final by around 10 goals.
A huge congratulations to all our Guyra members!
