Rugby stars shine in undefeated Barbarian team

15th Apr 2025

Four local Guyra boys competed at the Under 12s TAS Rugby Carnival which was held in Armidale on April 12th and 13th.
Guyra was proudly represented by four talented young rugby players in the combined Barbarians Highland Goats team. Jimmy Neill, Ricky-Jay Foster, Hugo Sisson and Flynn McFarlane joined players from Narrabri, Wee Waa, Burren Junction, Quirindi and Armidale to make up the side.
Facing tough competition against teams from across NSW and QLD, the boys played five games and helped their team win their pool. The team was undefeated, with only three tries scored against them all weekend.
The Highland Goats came together with limited preparation time, but quickly proved to be a powerful unit. Coaches praised the boys for their sportsmanship, adaptability, and teamwork on the field.
A special thank you goes out to the generous local sponsors Top of the Range Shearing, Parkdale Grazing and McFarlane Earthworks, who made the experience possible. Their contribution covered the uniform expenses for the 20 man squad.
The boys came away with fond memories, new friendships formed, and valuable experience gained on the field.
