Vets tournament set to become yearly event

Veteran golfers were out in force last week with 133 nominations over three days
29th Oct 2024

What a tremendous success! Our first attempt at this tournament and we had around 133 nominations over the three days which I think equals all expectations.
It was a learning experience and no doubt next year will be bigger and better.   What a great organizing team. All the fellas did what the fellas do and the expertise of the ladies saw it run like clockwork.
We were honoured with the President of NSW Vets Golf and some of his committee in attendance and they were over the moon with our course and the organization of the event to the extent they have invited us to join in their golfing calendar and make it an annual four day event.
Events like this don’t happen without sponsorship and the generosity from these people is nothing short of incredible. Please if you can give these local business people your support they certainly deserve it.
The support from the Bowling Club is nothing short of amazing. This organization goes over and above for all our major events. Thank you.
The Guyra Pharmacy. How lucky are we to have Vu and his wonderful staff supporting our town.
Costa’s tomatoes are always on board with tomatoes for everyone. Delicious!
Deano’s Trout Farm.  What a fantastic local attraction.
Guyra District Vet Clinic and Trent Jones. What amazing local legends.
Elders of Guyra always has their flag flying and we were proud to display it on our first tee for all three days. Thank you for all the little gifts.
We also had the flag of Davidson Cameron & Co flying also on the first tee.
Sole Taxation was again on board. What a great asset to our town.
Steve Bishop had a great display of golf gear in the club and his support as always is greatly appreciated.
Regional Australia Bank. What can I say, these guys are brilliant.
If I’ve missed anyone, sorry, I will get you next week.
Day one was a 4BBB medley. The winners of this with a brilliant 47 points was Kerry Bull and Suzanne Towels. Runners up on 43 points was Michael and Peter Jackson, with second runner up on 41 points going to Pip and Frank White. Congratulations to you all.
Day two saw the start of the two day event combined with two 18 hole competitions. This was another great field of both ladies and men with glorious Guyra sunshine setting the scene.
The ladies winner of the first day was the ever consistent Deb Heffernan. Deb is never too far off the pace. Closely behind and the runner up went to Wendy George.
For the men in division one Peter Jackson continued his form from the previous day to come in the winner from Ola Norberg runner up. Division two went to the in form Ray Sweeney to runner up G. Ball.
Day one scratch winners for the ladies went to Tracey Norberg. I think Tracey and Ola enjoyed their return to Guyra both picking up trophies. D. Perkins was the ladies runner up.
Scratch winners for the men in division one, Mick Jackson again got a win with J Perkins the runner up. Division two winner was B. Stringer with D. Perkins the runner up.
The second day of the 36 hole comp started again with beautiful sunshine and lots of smiling faces. The 18 hole winners of this for the ladies went to K. Guyer with Vicki Reeves the runner up in the nett division. For the men the nett winner in division one was P. Johnston with ex local Peter Taylor the runner up.
Division two winner was Paul Redden with runner up G. Ball. The scratch winner on the Wednesday for the ladies went to Wendy George with Tracey Norberg runner up.
For the men in division one Greg Constantine was the winner with Neil Paine runner up. Division two winner was L. Jenkinson with B. Stringer runner up.
A big congratulations to the 36 hole tournament winners. For the men this went to Ian Taylor. Congratulations to Ian who is up there with the most consistent golfers in our club and this win proves his capabilities. Congratulations also to Phil Devlin who was pretty stoked to get runner up.
For the ladies the 36 hole tournament congratulations go to Kerry Bull. Kerry is also a long term consistent golfer in our club and it’s great to see her take out this event. The runner up went to one of our many visitors in S Gilchrist.
There were numerous NTP prizes each and every day along with other novelty events and we congratulate all the winners.
Thank you again to our club, this would not have happened without your cooperation and support and we appreciate it very much. Your Bistro was amazing with many favourable comments.
The golf course was prepared to perfection with so many comments of praise for our greenkeepers. The effort put in each and every day was extraordinary. To the organizing committee, you guys are amazing.
