Strange word, ‘Presbyterian’, but it simply means a church led by elders, the wise ones, keeping and promoting the stories, the culture of the tribe; caring for spiritual life of the church family; leading and caring as a shepherd, a pastor.
And in a significant event in its 140 year history, the Guyra and Ben Lomond Presbyterians have unanimously elected and Ordained a new Elder, Mrs. Beth White.
Alongside her husband Roger, Beth runs ‘Whitelands’ a mixed grazing property at Ben Lomond. That, and three children and seven grandchildren keep her busy enough, but she is also active in the community: the Historical Society, Landcare, Guyra NSW Farmers, and the RFS.
Her community involvement was recognised as the 2023 Guyra Citizen of the Year.
With her parents before her, Beth has had a lifetime of commitment to Christ and His church, with a special connection to Ben Lomond Presbyterian Church, one of the last village churches in New England with regular services.
The role of an Elder in a Presbyterian Church is more than a great honour. It combines leadership and service; roles Beth has long fulfilled, but are now recognised in her election and setting apart.
Members of the Presbyterian church family are delighted to welcome and celebrate Beth as an Elder of the church.
