Promise made, promise kept

Dave Bearup delivers on his promise to Roy Jones
19th Nov 2024

Roy Jones’ first job was as a paper boy for Dave Bearup over 60 years ago. The pair have maintained a friendship and often share a joke with each other.
Dave noticed that a new shed that Roy was building was taking a long time to complete, and often joked with him about getting it finished. In fact it was under construction for 15 years and was only recently completed.
Dave had long promised to share a beer with Roy when the work was done. This week he was true to his word, handing over a carton of beer as payment on his promise.
For the record, at 12 years of age being a paper boy was Roy’s second job and he earnt the princely sum of $3 to deliver
papers to the patrons of the two Guyra pubs.
He threw in the job when he got a better offer, which was $5 a week sweeping floors for Joe George.
This job led to Roy taking on an mechanics apprenticeship, and as they say, the rest is history
