The Lamb and Potato Festival festival was first held in January 1987 and, apart from a brief break due to the Covid pandemic, it has been running as a successful annual event ever since.
The original organisers hoped to benefit from the passing traffic heading to and from the Tamworth Country Music Festival. For over forty years it has done that and much more.
The festival aims to promote our area to the many people who pass through and attract them to stop and spend time in Guyra. In addition it provides valuable financial support for many local organisations which are of vital importance to our community.
Following last year’s event a total of about $35,000 was distributed to groups who worked in the food kiosk or who did overnight security shifts. Similar payments have been made over many years providing significant benefit to these groups and through them to our community.
The festival will run again in 2025 beginning on Wednesday January 15th and concluding on Australia Day January 26th. On each day the festival will run from 7.30am in the morning until 7.30 pm in the evening.
With over thirty market stalls, festival food, coffee and live music performances every day, the festival will provide an enjoyable experience for visitors and locals alike.
Live music takes place between 12 and 2pm each day and from 5.30 until 7.30pm each evening. This provides a great chance to buy a meal and sit back and relax while being entertained by some outstanding local musicians.
On Saturday January 25th the car Show and Shine will be held in the main street with a range of spectacular cars, trucks, and bike on show. The Antique Machinery display will also take place at the southern end of the festival site.
In the evening entertainment will be provided by ‘Vinnie and the Cuban Missiles’, one of the region’s premier musical acts. On January 26th there will be an Australia Day ceremony followed by a music performance from ‘Four Book Trilogy’.
The organising committee is keen to welcome new members with fresh ideas about the festival. We would encourage anyone interested in becoming involved with festival planning and operations to contact us.
