Parli-Flicks invites NSW students to define democracy in one minute

23rd Jul 2024

Calling all young film-makers and budding creatives!
The Parliament of NSW proudly announces the launch of the Parli-Flicks Short Film Award 2024. We invite primary and high school students across NSW to showcase their creativity by exploring the theme of democracy through film – in under a minute.
This year, students are challenged to imagine themselves as Members of Parliament and propose a law they would pass.
Entries can be live-action or animated and can span genres from drama and comedy to documentary – the possibilities are limitless!
Who can enter? The competition is open to students from Years 5 to 12. Participants have a chance to win a $500 cash prize along with the prestigious Parli-Flicks trophy. Shortlisted entries will receive a $100 prize and a medal in recognition of their achievement.
What we’re looking for:
The Hon. Ben Franklin MLC, President of the NSW Legislative Council, encourages students to capture their interpretation of democracy in a compelling short film.
“We invite NSW primary and secondary students to let their creativity flourish as they explain their chosen law in ways that inspire and challenge,” said Mr Franklin. “We know there’s incredible talent across NSW and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
Submission details:
• Films must not exceed 60 seconds.
• Entries can be submitted individually or in groups.
• Awards will recognise excellence in categories such as Best Regional Short Film, Best Metropolitan Short Film, and distinctions for Junior and Senior Secondary entries.
Winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony held at NSW Parliament House on 13 November 2024.
Important dates:
The deadline for submissions is Friday 26 July 2024.
