Guyra’s main street came alive with festive frivolity last Friday as more than 1000 locals celebrated Christmas with visits from Santa and the official lighting of the tree.
The jolly event – run by Guyra Rotary in a collaboration with Armidale Regional Council (ARC) – had an amazing lineup of entertainment that included a petting zoo, a visit from Fairy Simone, community performances and children’s craft activities.
But by far the most popular event was Santa’s arrival and the delivery of some festive cheer in the form of Christmas presents to all the children.
ARC Deputy Mayor Todd Redwood and councillor Eli Imad were on hand to officially open the festivities and light up the Christmas Tree.
“This family-friendly event has always been a highlight on the Guyra calendar and this year’s event was a huge success,” said ARC Mayor Sam Coupland.
“There was a fabulous turnout of people enjoying the festive activities this year which was great to see. Events like these are vital for a town like Guyra as they give the entire community a chance to come together and celebrate the festive season.
“We were excited to be partnering with Guyra Rotary to bring this fabulous festive event to Guyra again in 2024.”
