Councillor Sam Coupland was returned as mayor of the Armidale Regional Council at the first meeting of the newly elected council on Wednesday, October 9th.
Cr Coupland was the sole nominee for the top job and will serve as mayor for the next two years. Cr Todd Redwood was also returned as deputy uncontested.
Only two councillors have served more than one term, with the rest of the councillors on their first or second term. Cr Coupland said he is optimistic about what this term of council will mean.
During the meeting, all nine councillors of the newly elected councillors confirmed their dedication to serve the community by oath or affirmation.
The only other business scheduled for the meeting was the annual holiday shut down over the holiday period, the meeting cycle for the rest of the financial year and the nomination of voting delegates to attend the LGNSW Annual Conference which is being held in Tamworth.
Councillors have unanimously decided to continue with meetings held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4pm. All meetings will continue to be held in Armidale.
The next meeting of council is set down for Wednesday October 23rd, where councillors will be presented with their first full agenda of items for this term.
