Ben Lomond bids farewell to local couple

06th Aug 2024

Long term district residents Phil Williams and Sarah Harding were farewelled recently by the Ben Lomond community. The couple were remembered as a respected local grazier, former school bus driver, keepers of the key and integral to improvements at Ben Lomond Hall, station and landfill.
Their involvement included serving as Ben Lomond Hall Trustee/Crown lands Land Manager, Water User’s Association Committee members, Ben Lomond Landcare Executive and Manager for Ben Lomond Landcare’s Woolly Weeders Project and as joint caretakers for Ben Lomond St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. They were also actively engaged in ‘Clean Up Australia’ activities, ‘Biggest Morning Tea’, and streetscape tree planting.
As the store keepers and Post Office managers, Phil and Sarah held the ‘corporate knowledge’ of most functions of Ben Lomond village and indeed the local area. Even after moving to and living in Guyra, they continued to support the people, the events and the activities of Ben Lomond.
“There are no words with which to thank Phil and Sarah for all that they have contributed, nor are there words to say goodbye to friends who have been so connected and entwined to the recent past of village life. Instead we stood at the site of the store they once ran, and just waved a humble goodbye; as a gesture and an expression of thanks and to convey our good wishes for their future.”
