TINGHA’s art gallery will be given a much-needed $11,498 boost for mobile display stands, wall hangers, a coffee machine and table and chairs.
Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the project came about after the devastating 2019 fires that ripped through Tingha, and the organisation was formed to decide what could be done to help the community through this sad and hard time.
“The Building the Tingha Community Spirit Aboriginal Corporation has 45 financial members undertaking different roles to keep the organisation viable and the community active,” Mr Moylan said.
“Their art gallery is a little gem, attracting artists from near and far to Tingha and allowing locals to share the town’s creative spirit.
“The funding was announced in the latest round of the Community Building Partnership, and will help cater for workshops, events, and special occasions.
“Well done to Secretary Deb and the hardworking team on this grant.”
Secretary of the Building the Tingha Community Spirit Aboriginal Corporation (BTTCSAC) Deb Ross said they were excited for the funding boost.
“Tingha is an awesome small community that has had to deal with more than their share of hardships,” Ms Ross said.
“BTTCSAC strive to showcase the talents and culture of the community.
“We promote Aboriginal culture, for example, through Droonoodoo Cultural Immersion Tours; Art and Ecology imparts information and tours to groups and individuals.
“We aim to help improve opportunities for the youth of the community.”
It will take one year to get the building prepared and eighteen months to get the art gallery fully functional. All contractors are volunteers or are associated with Tingha Buffalo Lodge, JoblinkPlus, Local Land Service, and Gymac Landcare.
