The Guyra Showgrounds were bursting at the seams when hundreds of competitors arrived and set up camp with their horses and families to participate in the first Timepiece Campdraft in seven years. There was much excitement and anticipation around the refreshed event with record numbers of nominations.
Guyra turned on the most pleasant weather with cool and sunny days making the event enjoyable for all the locals and visitors. The event was supplied with the best cattle the New England has to offer, and each event was successfully hosted with overwhelming feedback about the quality of the cattle and the surface and ground conditions in the arena. The local Guyra VRA service was in attendance to ensure the safety and first aid of competitors was the utmost priority.
The club hosted a welcome BBQ, with several generous local sponsors supplying the meal. Guyra lamb was showcased, and delicious lamb and gravy rolls were a huge hit amongst the visitors. Proceeds went to the Club’s Charity of choice for 2024, Sarah Wheeler and A Daughter’s Way.
Several new events were hosted, including the Pat Grills Memorial Maiden, the H-DIamond Novice/Maiden Shootout, the Battle on the Great Divide Invitational Maiden for Maiden and the A and D Kendall’s “Lindsay” Highest Scoring Family. These new incentives all added abundant motivation for competitors.
The Open was an outstanding spectacle with the final comprising of 30 riders who scored 89 and above with phenomenal praise for the quality of the horsemanship and talent.
On Saturday night, a generous crowd participated in a fundraising auction and Calcutta for the Open Final with wonderful results. The target fundraising goal was exceeded, and it is hoped that funds can be distributed back to the Guyra community at the next meeting with a focus on important Showgrounds upgrades.
The Guyra Campdraft Committee is very grateful to the local business community for the incredible support, making it possible to host this hugely successful event. It is a small but industrious working party that brings together shared local expertise, energy and leadership.
The club is looking forward to hosting the Guyra Timepiece Campdraft again in 2025 on November 21st, 22nd, 23rd.
