Busy time for Veteran Cricketers

24th Sep 2024

While many of you are just warming up for the new cricket season, veterans cricket has been busy through the “off” season with mini carnivals for the 50s, 60s and 70s being held in Gloucester over winter.
Two local cricketers are currently involved in higher level representative cricket. Mitchell Woods, a member of Guyra Cricket Club and New England Veterans Cricket, is currently in Mildura representing Australia A in an Over 50s tri-series against Australia and New Zealand. Mitchell opens the bowling for Australia A.
Once the tri-series finishes, he will stay in Mildura and play in a franchise run Over 50s T20 competition, with players from across Australia participating.
Brian Starkey also plays veterans cricket for Guyra and New England and he’s been picked to represent NSW Over 65s at the National championships in McKay starting next week.
New England Veterans Cricket is the avenue for local cricketers to continue playing the sport at a higher level, but also an opportunity to go on tour at various carnivals across the state.
