Soccer season winds down

03rd Sep 2024

The soccer season is winding down for competitive ages groups and seniors. The only tGuyra team to see any action in the finals will be the under 12s.
This past week the team played Walcha in Armidale, where a flat Guyra side went down to Walcha 7 to 2 in what is the team’s second loss of the season. This has them fighting for the 2nd spot on the table.
The senior teams finished the season at home last Saturday against two Demon Knight sides, at the very well supported old boys afternoon and can assist fundraiser.
The 4th grade side started the afternoon and, like most of the season, matched the opposition for the first half. However, the pressure applied by DK saw them comfortably take the win in the second half.
This season has seen new members to the Guyra United club, returning players and juniors stepping up from the 16s combine to form the 4th grade side. This side has improved as a team throughout the year and has always given 100% on the field and at training.
In what could have been a long season of losses the newly formed team can hold their heads high securing a number of wins and a couple of draws from the season.
The 3rd Grade side took to the field at 3pm, again having suffered the loss of key player to injury during the week. It was a very close game in the first half and the crowd support may have got the team over the line in the second half to take the win in last game for the season.
This season was a tough one after the premiership success last year and in what was a side rebuild brought about the loss of players over the summer period. They gave their all throughout the season and with the inclusion of some younger players into the side, the team can hold their head high despite not making finals this year.
The Club would again like to thank its sponsors this season and if anyone is looking to become involved in running the great club keep an eye on the facebook page for the upcoming AGM date.
Presentation day for both junior and seniors will be held at the fields on the 21st September kicking off at 12.30pm

Ladies Bowls
On Tuesday 27th August the women bowlers of Guyra were out in force and on the green to welcome back the warm weather. President Laurel, Dottie, Colleen, Jill and Jenny welcomed a new player, Vicki, and hope to see her back on the green really soon!
Club Day for Guyra women bowlers is Tuesdays at 10am. All new players are welcome to come and have a try out. We also have our social days on Thursdays at 10am, everyone (including men!) welcome.
Come along any time and have a roll up with us, bowls provided for beginners. Come out and enjoy the sunshine with us and have a drink ad chat in the club after.
