Soccer clubs unite in fundraiser for Tyson Hutton

21st May 2024

On Saturday May 18th, the Guyra United Soccer Club hosted the first full home round for the season, starting with our junior teams. The Under 7s were the only team to travel, playing Walcha in Armidale.
The six remaining junior teams took to the Guyra fields from 9.00am. There were many cheers coming from the junior fields and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the warmer conditions after their first wet round the week before. The Under 12s side are showing great potential this season with a definitive 7 nil win over Armidale City Westside.
The Club then started the “United for Tyson” fundraiser in conjunction with East Armidale Soccer Club. Tyson is the 9 year old son of Damien and Heidi Hutton. Damien played soccer as a junior in Guyra before heading to East Armidale.
Tyson has a rare disease, MNGIE (Mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy), and he needs a bone marrow transplant later this year with the family needing to relocate to Sydney for treatment. To help with the costs GUSC hosted the senior games with a BBQ, bar, raffle and 100 Club.
It was an emotional day at the Guyra Recreation Grounds with Tyson leading the teams onto the field and doing the coin toss.

A minute’s silence was held before both grades for former player and current sponsor Jason Siddell from Top of the Range Meat Co. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
The 4th Grade game was a very even one with both teams defending their goals tightly, finishing with a fitting 1 all draw. We congratulate Aidan Brown, a local junior, for stepping up as the 4th Grade referee after also refereeing the Under 12s game.
With very dark skies behind them the 3rd Grade teams took to the field. Unfortunately the game was called off as the hailstorm hit shortly after, and the fundraiser was forced to end early.
We would like to thank everyone for supporting the fundraiser and we wish the Hutton Family all the best for the future. Please support their major fundraiser, the Armidale Motor Show, on the 15th of June.
